Interactive Playground Equipment

About our interactive playground equipment, developed with Lappset.

In collaboration with Lappset, KITT Engineering is shaping the future of outdoor play. Our interactive playground equipment combines smart technology with movement, education and social interaction. Using innovative techniques such as sensors, light, sound and software, we merge fun and technological development into one experience. These products are sustainably manufactured, built to withstand heavy use and designed to bring people together in a positive play environment. In this article, we’ll explore the technology behind the interactive playground equipment developed in collaboration with Lappset.

A Closer Look at Lappset’s Interactive Playground Equipment

In cooperation with KITT Engineering, Lappset has introduced various types of interactive playground equipment. While KITT Engineering developed the technology, Lappset provided the initial design. Together, we contribute to a sustainable and engaging play experience for people of all ages. Each piece of equipment features unique functions, technology and design.

The Sona – Learning Through Movement in Public Spaces

The Sona is one of Lappset’s most beloved examples of interactive playground equipment. It features a large play floor with an overhead arch equipped with sensors, sound modules and intelligent software. Simply pressing the start button activates a game that encourages movement, dancing and playful tasks. Sona’s strength lies in its accessibility, people of all ages can join in without the need of prior explanation. Each game has an intuitive structure, easy to understand by every player.

How does the Sona work?

Sona combines motion detection, audio animation and real-time feedback. Sensors detect player positions and movements, triggering responses through light and sound. Accessibility is a key design feature: the play floor is flat and spacious, allowing participation from people with limited mobility or wheelchair users.

Sona proves that outdoor technology can be functional, inclusive, and community-building. It’s a clear example of how KITT Engineering turns technology into a positive force in society.

The Fono – Making Music Interactive in the Neighborhood

The Fono is an interactive DJ booth that engages young people right in their own environment. Instead of listening to music at home, the Fono invites users to express their passion for music outdoors. What sets the Fono apart, is its durable and robust technology.

How does the Fono work?

The Fono includes a library full of music samples. Users can mix, edit and play their own tracks via built-in speakers. The interface links user actions directly to the sound system in real time. Built to withstand rain, wind, intensive use and even vandalism, the Fono combines rugged hardware with a sleek, youth-friendly design.

This piece of interactive playground equipment encourages connection and self-expression. In many urban areas, young people seek a place to be themselves. The Fono offers that space by merging music and technology in a way that lets you be seen and heard. It helps foster positive social dynamics in the neighborhood.

The Sutu – Turning Ball Sports Into Interactive Games

The Sutu is an interactive football wall that blends traditional ballsports with digital game functions. It features panels that light up and produce sound, all connected to a system that enables games ranging from target shooting to time-based challenges. The games adapt and grow more difficult as players improve.

How does the Sutu work?

Each panel has a zone that detects touch and impact. A sensor module measures ball speed. The Sutu can be connected to an app where players can track scores, challenge others, and monitor their progress. The combination of physical activity and digital feedback makes the Sutu especially appealing to young people who are less likely to participate in conventional sports.

The technology behind Sutu challenges, motivates, and connects players. Built for public spaces, it is durable and designed for long-term outdoor use. With the Sutu, KITT and Lappset are contributing to a more active and healthier urban landscape.

The Memo – Education and Exercise in One Play Experience

The Memo is a circular installation made up of seven interactive pillars that encourage children to move and learn at the same time. Each game begins with a short instruction, then players complete tasks by tapping or running between pillars. The games cover school-related topics such as math, language, and geography.

How does the Memo work?

Technically, Memo is a brilliant example of interactive design. Each pillar is equipped with sensors and LED lights that respond to touch and motion. The software controls which pillars activate during a game, how quickly players must respond and what feedback they receive. This promotes not just physical activity but also critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity.

Memo stands out for its educational value. It encourages children to invent their own rules, adapt challenges and create new games. As such, it aligns perfectly with modern educational goals and the need for active learning. The blend of education, technology and movement makes this a valuable asset for schoolyards and public playgrounds alike.

The Solar – Powering Sustainable Play

None of this interactive playground equipment would function without power. That’s why Lappset developed the Solar, a sustainable energy system that converts sunlight into usable electricity for the installations. KITT Engineering designed a ‘Solar Protection Box’ to prevent damage in case of faulty connections. With a plug-and-play design, the Solar enables interactive playground equipment to operate even in locations without access to the power grid, making it both efficient and eco-friendly.

The Technology That Brings Play to Life

All interactive playground equipment by Lappset is engineered and produced entirely in-house by KITT Engineering. From sensors to enclosures, each component meets rigorous quality standards and is thoroughly tested. Our products are certified according to standards like IEC 63368, which applies to free-access sports equipment and includes safety and testing methods.

Each unit is also internet-connected, allowing municipalities and organizations to adjust settings such as volume, play duration and maintenance alerts remotely. Game statistics are automatically stored and made available for analysis, making management smarter and more user-friendly.

All designs take into account factors like vandal resistance, weather durability, ease of maintenance and user comfort. Energy-efficient LED lighting enhances the play experience while keeping energy use low.

From Concept to Interactive Playground Equipment

At KITT Engineering, our in-house R&D department often begins with real-world questions or challenges. In partnership with Lappset, we analyze environmental factors and develop tailored solutions. Throughout development, we continuously test, improve and refine our designs.

During production, we choose high-quality, sustainably certified materials. We handle repairs ourselves and reuse components wherever possible. This approach results in technically robust products that contribute to a circular and environmentally friendly future.
